Lauren Matthews
Lauren Matthews grew up in the small town of Ozona, Texas, where her family owns and operates a sheep and cattle ranch. She first moved to Colorado in 1998 to obtain her bachelors degree from the University of Denver, but later returned to Texas to attend the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. In 2008, Lauren permanantly returned to Colorado and began her career in the oil and gas industry as an associate with a small Denver law firm specializing in mineral title examination. Since that time, Lauren's practice has focused primarly on drafting drilling and division order title opinions. She has extensive experience preparing opinions covering all types of complex chains of title, including subdivisions, riverbeds, multiple formations and sizeable spacing units. Lauren also specializes in advising clients on title curative and due diligence measures, representing clients in probate and determination of heirship proceedings, and interpreting all types of industry agreements and contracts. Lauren is also renowned for creating and maintaining a template for calculating division of interests for oil and gas operators. Her expansive and diverse experience in the industry makes her a priceless part of the Matthews Michalak Reis team.
Lauren is an active participant and leader in the oil and gas community. She is currently Chair of the Natural Resources and Energy Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association, and formerly served as the section's Vice Chair and Secretary/Treasurer.
